OK, just read an article in an SEO where the writer ripped Alcoholics Anonymous a new one. Now, to the writer’s credit, AA wasn’t the only one mentioned, but also other substance abuse treatment programs and protocols. However, AA is what the author focused on the most.

The author took exception to practically every aspect of the AA program. There was disagreement with referring to alcoholism as a disease. The author did not feel that AA had all that great a success rate, because those are the only things reported, The failures have left, so they can’t be reported on.

The author’s main beef seemed to be with AA’s policy of encouraging members to turn to a “higher power” to help them handle their alcohol addiction. He seems to feel that it is the same as pushing a certain religion or belief.

Alcoholics Anonymous has been around since 1935. Other agencies and organizations—some of which no longer exist—have come along since then; however, AA seems to have a pretty fair history of longevity. It definitely cannot be considered a “fly-by-night” program.

Alcoholics Anonymous does teach “one day at a time” coping techniques, something else which the author of the article on the SEO seemed to think was the worst idea ever to come down the pike. The author says that attitude, in essence, sets a person up for failure.”

The author doesn’t like what he sees as the mindset of AA, which he feels is “Once a drunk, always a drunk, a person attending AA is just a sober drunk.”

This is by far the most negative piece on Alcoholics Anonymous that I have ever seen. I have to say that I don’t agree with the author’s viewpoint. Anybody else out there want to throw in two-cents’ worth?
